How to Report Elder Abuse

As citizens of Kentucky it is the law to report suspected abuse of the elderly. Kentucky passed House Bill #298 in 2005 that shields reporters from liability in the event the report turns out to be unfounded, provided the report was made in "good faith."

Each state designates a lead agency or agencies to assume responsibility for investigating abuse reports. In Kentucky, Adult Protective Services (APS) is the primary agency to accept reports.

In the event that criminal activities are involved, law enforcement will also investigate elder abuse cases. If it is an emergency and the elderly person is in imminent danger "911" should be called. Once the person is out of danger, the authorities will contact the appropriate agencies.
